Heap leaching requires less aggressive techniques: a chemical solution is simply sprayed on heap ore. As the solution percolates through the heaped ore, it dissolves the gold. The solution is then collected and treated further by adsorption. The heap leach stack must be porous enough to allow the solution to drip or to drain through the stack.
